Memorial Falls

I awoke Saturday morning with a definate plan. I woke the kids to haul gravel
while Ryan was at the garden watering.
We were going to leave to go hiking by 10:00 am, but s they say
"...the best laid plans of mice and men..."
In the midst of moving lava rock, the phone rang and there was a mom in labor,
so I had to stick around. The kids were kinda bummed,
so Ryan just took them without me.They were looking for a hike that we hadn't been on before, Hoover Creek,
but couldn't find it.
They ended up eating lunch at Showdown Ski Resort, and then going on a hike
that we did last year after October Conference.
Memorial Falls, July 2008

They had a blast. I asked Ryan how it was to hike with five kids,
and he said it was wonderful!
They were a little hot, so they dunked in the waterfall
Mara would only dip her toesies into the creek...
it was freezing cold water
I was sad to miss it. I love the great outdoors. Nothing grounds me better than getting out in nature, but I got the house all cleaned,
and it actually stayed that way for longer than 10 minutes.
I also was alone with Emma for that time. I wonder what she was thinking.
It was so quiet and no one was bugging her. She slept uninterupted, not a norm for her.
I never did end up going in on Saturday, Just a taste of what is to come.

Sounds like a good time was had by all...even mom who gets to have a minute to do fun things like clean the house. Thank you for sharing the pictures...too bad you had to miss the fun but it is great for dads to have a little one on five time with his brood.

I kind of like it when I have to stay home. It means I can clean and I don't have busy hands behind me messing up everything. The hike looked beautiful though. I love Mara only putting her toes in.

Yes...Ellie is on a leash.(so Mean)

Missed you on my b-day it just wasn't the same.

Hey Melanie. It is always nice to be home with one. I forget sometimes how crazy it is until you only have one at times. What are you with the whole labor thing? Are you a midwife or something?

What a great dad Ryan is...and what a great mom you are too. I love that he took five kids hiking. Sorry you had to miss the hike but being there for the birth of a baby has to top life's experiences:)

You have always been so good to get your kids working. I remember when Noah told me he didn't like summer because his mom always woke him up early to weed the garden. They will thank you one day!

How is your week going with calls and Boucks. So fun i'm sure!
